WHAT YOU NEED

First of all, we would like to explain a few things you should bring with you

Wetsuit

From March to April, we recommend a long 4/3 mm wetsuit as it is still cool. In May, the transition phase begins and it gets warmer – a shorty is now used more often.

In the summer months from June to August, board shorts are sufficient, but don’t forget to wear a lycra to protect you from the sun!

In September and October we are again in a transitional phase, so board shorts and a shorty are the ideal choice.

All camp participants have the wetsuit included. If you have your own, bring it! It will fit better that rental wetsuits!

Harness

We provide all beginners with a seat harness. If you are already advanced and prefer to ride with a waist harness, we ask you to bring your own harness. We only have a limited number of waist harnesses available on site.

Neoprene shoes

Neoprene shoes are recommended for all kiters, especially beginners. There are a few shells and stones in the lagoon.
We strongly recommend to bring your own.

Nice to have

Remember to bring shorts, a hat and plenty of sunscreen (SPF 50!) for Egypt. Don’t underestimate the strong sunlight on the water. In our Egypt collection you will find everything we also recommend.

Sunglasses

A lot of sun awaits you in Egypt, so sunglasses are practically indispensable. Even more important, however, is a pair that won’t get lost in the water. Sunglasses with a strap are ideal here.

We have sunglasses in our store at Makani.

Other stuff

On site there is a shop to buy anything you need at the beach. Please note that not all sizes are available, therefore we recommend to organize the major things in advance.

You can change money at any ATM directly in El Gouna or at the reception in Makani.

During the day, we will spend most of the day at Makani Beach Club. You can enjoy a very fresh and healthy food as well as fresh juices and smoothies directly at the beach.
Once a week, Makani is also organizing a barbecue evening with some nice music.

In El Gouna you will find a variety of good places to have dinner: from burgers to Italian pasta and pizza restaurants to Indian and Thai eateries and much more.

You need a visa for Egypt. You can easily buy one when you arrive in Hurghada. The visa costs 25€ per person and is valid for one month.

To ensure optimum protection for you and your equipment during the kite camp and beyond, we recommend the SAFETY TOOL, which is offered by the VDWS and the Südwestring. You can take it out in advance for 39€/year.

You can take out the SAFETY TOOL here.

Alternatively, you could also consider private liability insurance that also covers kiting (although very few insurance companies offer this).

VDWS Safety Tool

Every participant, whether beginner or advanced, has the opportunity to acquire a VDWS kitesurfing license during the event week. The basic license including textbook, exam and level sticker costs 50€. A level upgrade costs 10€

We are equiped with CORE equipment. Feel free to try all models, which include the XR, Nexus and the Air.
We also have a selection of CORE and CARVED Boards.

We start every day at 9:00 at the station. Depending on the wind conditions, we try to divide the day into 2 sessions. A morning session (approx. 2.5 to 3 hours) and an evening session (approx. 2-2.5 hours).

Your instructors will divide you into small groups according to your level and run the course with you.

We are there for you the whole week! You can ask us your questions at any time and we will be happy to answer them.

We go out with the group at least three evenings. The first evening on the welcome evening, once during the week, usually on the barbecue evening at the station and on the last day, the farewell evening.

The Makani Beach Club is located in the north of El Gouna.

You can easily get there by tuk-tuk (around €1 per ride) or use the free shuttle from Three Corners.

The center offers a great chill-out zone, a fabulous restaurant with first-class food, an open-air fitness area and of course the relaxed beach flair.

Bring your kite equipment with you on the first day (harness, wetsuit/shoes, towel, etc.), which can then be left there for the rest of your stay. Changing rooms are available and, as a rule, nothing gets lost. Nevertheless, we ask you to leave valuables in the hotel or safe. No liability is accepted for lost personal items.

From Rihanna daily at 8:30 and 9:30 am / Ocean View Hotel 5 minutes later: 8:35 and 9:35 am
The return trip also daily from 17:30, 18:30 and 19:30 back to the hotels.
This is a free service.
Please double check on site the departure time.
